Customs, Cultures and Cuisine: “It’s All Here” in Westerville!
Did you know that families hailing from more than 60 different countries call Westerville home? The Westerville Visitors and Convention Bureau invites you to come celebrate the diversity of our community during 4th Friday: World Bazaar, Friday, July 25, 2008 from 6-9pm in Historic Uptown Westerville.
Several cultural displays will line the streets of the Uptown District, including Westerville City School’s English as a Second Language Department, the YWCA of Columbus and A Gal Named Cinda Lou, 20 N. State St., which will feature items from Brazil. Grace Brethren Church’s ESL will also offer cultural activities for children.
A variety of world music will fill the air throughout the evening. Enjoy traditional maritime tunes from the British Isles performed by “The Harbor Pilots”
on the AAA Ohio Auto Club Music Stage. The Arts Council of Westerville presents reggae music by the “A.A.R.M.S. Band” in front of the Westerville Municipal
Building, 21 S. State St, and Karaoke with Art and Dave on East College Ave.
There will be plenty for kids to experience including a Spanish/English Clown provided by the Westerville Christian Academy and performances by the Westerville Puppet Posse. The Westerville Public Library will host “Storytimes” on E. College Ave. from 6:30pm to 8:30pm and kids can climb into a fire truck or check out a police cruiser, courtesy of the Westerville Divisions of Police and Fire. Westerville Parks and Recreation will offer children’s activities as well.
The Shaolin Huiguang Kungfu and Tai Chi School will bring the sights and sounds of the Far East to West College Ave. with Tai Chi demonstrations and the popular “Lion Dance”. The Taoist Tai Chi Society and iYooWee Dance and Fitness will display their talents during “The Harbor Pilots’” intermissions in Marketplace North, at the corner of N. State and E. Home Streets.
Participating Uptown shops will be open late and the streets will be lined with more than 80 vendors offering a variety of products and services.
Whether you’re in the mood for authentic Italian food or something more American, Westerville’s Uptown eateries will be open for business and the
Sertoma Brat Wagon will sell its traditional fare with proceeds going to charity.
